V-157 code is applied following a rejected residence permit application, indicating the foreigner no longer has a legal right to stay in Turkey.
What is the V-157 Code?
The V-157 code is an administrative notification code automatically processed by the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management. It is issued when a foreigner’s application for a short-term, family, or student residence permit is refused. This code serves as a formal record that your legal window for staying in Turkey has closed.
The Consequences of a V-157 Code
Obligation to Leave: Upon the notification of the rejection (and the V-157 code), you are typically granted 10 days to leave Turkey voluntarily.
Overstay Risk: If you remain in Turkey beyond the 10-day period without filing a legal appeal, you will be considered an "overstayer," which leads to administrative fines and a potential entry ban.
Re-application Ban: Under normal circumstances, you cannot apply for the same type of residence permit for 6 months following a rejection.
How to Resolve the V-157 Restriction Code
A rejection is not always the end of the road. There are two primary legal ways to challenge a V-157 code:
Annulment Lawsuit (İptal Davası): Within 60 days of the rejection notice, you can file a lawsuit in the Administrative Court to cancel the decision. If the court finds the rejection unlawful, the V-157 code is lifted, and your residency rights are restored.
Annotated Visa (Meşruhatlı Vize): If you leave Turkey, you can apply for an "Annotated Visa" (e.g., for work or education) at a Turkish Consulate. If granted, this allows you to return to Turkey legally and apply for a new permit regardless of the 6-month rule.
